New Home buyers in Glasgow will have the choice of a number of recognised districts, where property buyers might start their search for a new-build home, before looking at much smaller localities.
City Centre – As you might expect with the heart of any city, new-build property in Glasgow’s City Centre (as well as its Financial, Retail & Theatre and Merchant City districts) is almost exclusively in the form of apartments – ideal for the young professional yearning to live right where the action is.
West End – Arguably the city’s most bohemian district, the West End includes neighbourhoods such as Dowanhill, where converted Victorian tenement buildings are popular with buyers, and Hyndland, one of Glasgow’s prime property areas. It’s also home to a number of Glasgow’s arts and cultural facilities and the SECC exhibition centre.
East End – Once a major industrial district, the East End includes some of Glasgow’s more deprived areas.
South Side – South of the Clyde are many residential areas, parks and golf courses. Pollokshields is now a conservation area with many fine Victorian homes and King’s Park is one of the most affluent areas in Glasgow.
North Glasgow – This district contains a mix of poorer quarters and some affluent suburbs and commuter towns, such as Bearsden and Milngavie.
Other areas of interest for buyers of new-build property include:
Paisley – West of the city centre and convenient for Glasgow International Airport, Paisley has good links to the city and a wide choice of new properties for sale, including loft conversions of old buildings as well as homes of more contemporary design. A high standard of schools and leisure and shopping facilities also make Scotland’s largest town worth a look for many buyers.
East Kilbride – Designation as a new town after World War Two saw a small rural settlement transformed into Scotland’s sixth-largest town, with excellent links to the centre of Glasgow, eight miles northeast. A £400 million local redevelopment scheme has been approved which will transform the town and its amenities.
