Wherever you are in the Glasgow area, there are great road links and an impressive array of public transport services to help you get around.
Roads – A-roads radiate from the city centre to the outer districts, while the local motorway network includes links to Edinburgh (M8), Kilmarnock (M77) and the south (M74, which eventually meets the M6 to Birmingham).
Railway – Glasgow’s commuter rail network is very comprehensive, with numerous local lines connecting the suburbs to the heart of the city, the majority converging on Central or Queen Street stations.
Buses – There is a comprehensive bus network around the city and beyond, with Buchanan and East Kilbride the two largest bus stations on the network.
Subway – Glasgow’s underground loop, known universally in the city as “The Subway”, traverses the Clyde, with 15 stops. It is the third oldest underground railway in the world, though thankfully it has enjoyed substantial recent modernisation since it was founded in 1896.
Airport – Two airports serve the city, both with good links to the city centre. Glasgow International Airport is located 8 miles west of the city centre, close to Paisley, and Prestwick Airport is around 30 miles to the southwest.
